His doctoral work won him a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Materials<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Society Graduate Student Award<\/a> (now known as the Gold Award). He obtained his M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eng.uc.edu\/dept_cme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eng.uc.edu\/dept_cme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cincinnati<\/a> and B. Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering from <a href=\"http:\/\/metallurgy.iitm.ac.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IIT, Madras<\/a>, India. He was a staff member at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.novellus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novellus Systems<\/a>, CA (now Lam Research), and a Visiting Scientist at the Physics Department, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifm.liu.se\/thinfilm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Link\u00f6ping University<\/a>, Sweden, before he joined the faculty at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, in Fall 1998 as an Assistant Professor. He became a tenured Associate Professor in 2003, and Professor in 2006. He was appointed Chair Professor, John Tod Horton Professor, in 2013.<\/p><p>He is a Co-Founder and Director of <a href=\"http:\/\/thermoaura.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ThermoAura Inc<\/a>., a start-up cofounded by him in 2011 to bring new materials technologies to the marketplace. He also served as the Director of the New York State Center for Future Energy Systems (2008-2010).
