Dr. Adolfo Sánchez Blanco
Capital del Colegio Comunitario del Estado de Connecticut.

I am originally from Spain, and it was in Spain that I became a biologist and completed a Master’s degree in Ecology (Spider ecology. That’s why you can often see spiders in my videos). In the late 90’s I moved to the United States and completed a PhD (Biomedical Science) at UConn Medical School.

For about 10 years, I did research on the molecular biology of the aging process, first at Stanford University School of Medicine and then at the Cancer Research Center (CIC) of Salamanca, Spain where I was a fellow for The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). About 10 years ago, I decided to focus entirely on teaching. I am now a tenured biology professor at CT State Community College Capital.

Ever since I started teaching, I have been working on communication strategies to show my students the beauty of biology. One of my approaches has been to incorporate social media into my teaching. My educational videos have been featured by local, national, and international news outlets including Newsweek magazine, USAToday, The Weather.

I have also been the recipient of several teaching awards including the prestigious Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Board of Regents Teaching Award.

I am a running enthusiast, and I do most of my running in the forest. This works great for me because besides exercising, I get to see the amazingness of the forest throughout the seasons as well as to take samples that I use for many of my videos. I also like classical music and art, which is why I love exploring the artistic side of biology in my videos and almost always use classical music in them.

In summary, I am a molecular biologist by training and a naturalist at heart, with a deep passion for sharing my interest in biology, whether with my students or with the world.
