Dr Josh Siegel is an academician, inventor, innovator, and serial entrepreneur with a passion for creating and fostering new ideas and nurturing them into start-ups. His work with Professor Sanjay Sarma and the members of the MIT Field Intelligence Lab includes research on vehicle prognostics, sensors, data mining, and IoT architecture. Part of the research also relates to open data standards, data interoperability, and use of machine learning to optimize vehicle efficiency, performance, security and reliability. He is focused on integrating smart applications, for example, sensing, connectivity, inference, and actuation. See design portfolio here http://www.mit.edu/~j_siegel/Portfolio/

Dr. Siegel is the Founder and CTO of DataDriven and CarKnow, both in Brookline, MA.

DataDriven applies pervasive mobile phone sensing (non-OBD vehicle diagnostics) for the proactive detection of vehicle faults to reduce maintenance and assure increased vehicle lifetime efficiency.

CarKnow commercialized research relating to a platform for universal automotive application development, curating an app store for vehicles, and serving as a data broker for third parties. The company focused on embedded hardware and software, web applications, and intelligent IoT platform design, as well as vehicle security analysis.
