Efrén M. Benavides received his MSc in Aeronautical Engineer in 1994, his PhD in 1999 and his Physics degree in 2005. He is a Full Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) since 2001, where imparts lectures in the Aerospace Engineering School (ETSIAE) and in the Industrial Engineering School (ETSII), at the graduate and master levels. In addition, he is an affiliate professor at ESCP Europe Business School. His areas of expertise are Innovation Management, Creativity and Product Strategy, Sustainable Design, Reliability, Mechanical Design, and Analysis and Design of Propulsion Systems. He was an invited researcher at Imperial College London where develop part of his research on the stability of axial-flow and radial-flow compressors. He has participated in more than 15 research projects, highlighting the application of the Design Science to innovative engineering challenges in multidisciplinary environments for an international consultancy firm, the design of a 2U-Cubesat for the QB50 satellite constellation, and the design of a non-conventional Diesel-engine demonstrator for UAVs applications. He is author and coauthor of several chapter books, conference papers and research articles published in peer review Journals. He is also the author of two books, Fuzzy Ethics: a moral criterion for sustainability, and Advanced Engineering Design: an integrated approach.
