Santiago Garcia-Granda. Verdicio-Asturias (Spain), 1955. Married, one son. Full Prof. of Physical-Chemistry, University. Degree, 1980, and PhD, 1984, in Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Oviedo. Postdoctoral scholarship holder at the University of Nijmegen (Holland), 1985/87, with Prof. Paul T. Beurskens.

Leads the X-rays Team, and the SYSTAM Group, of the Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry and the CSIC Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Institute (CINN). Specialist in structural determination, molecular crystallography and calculations. From May of 2008 to April 2012 was Vice-Chancellor for Research of the University of Oviedo, and Executive Secretary of the R&D commission of the CRUE, and is the current Past-President of the European Crystallographic Association (ECA) which is serving since August 2006. Elected Ordinary Member of the Executive Committee of the IUCr for the period 2014-2020. Since may 2016 is Rector of the University of Oviedo.

Author of more than 500 articles, several chapters of books and numerous communications and communications presented/displayed in congresses, on Physico- Chemical studies of the molecular structure, crystallography, diffraction and methods of calculation. He has a H Index of 45. He is coauthor of the Crystallography Program DirDif cited more than 3000 times. Leading more than 30 research projects, coordinator of the FP7-PEOPLE-2009-IRSES project SOLGELSENS and PI at University of Oviedo of the project FP7-PEOPLE-2009-IRSES: SiCCatalyst. Is the head of the X-rays Team in the SYSTAM Research Group, declared Group of Excellence of the Principality of Asturias in 2001. He is responsible for the infrastructure installation in the Spanish Line of the Synchrotron of the ESRF. It has been the supervisor of 16 approved PhD theses. Diverse academic positions and responsibilities, among others, was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry 1998/2008. Secretary of the Department of 1990/94 Physical and Analytical Chemistry. Appointed person of the area of Physical Chemistry in the commission of Chemical Curricula. Coordinator of the Committee of Internal of Evaluation of the Degree in Chemistry, President of the Commission of pursuit of the Plan of Improvements of the Degree of Chemistry. Creator of the Scientific Service of Determination of Crystalline structures by X-rays Diffraction and Director for more than 20 years, as well as Coordinating of the Network of Computers and the Management of the communications network. Member of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, Specialized Group of Crystallography and Crystal Growth (Past-President) and of the British Crystallographic Association.
